A Global Voices initiative to support marginalized communities to harness the internet to meet their self-determined needs.
Catalina Restrepo from the HiperBarrio project in La Loma, a small hillside town on the outskirts of Medellín, Colombia, produced this video to show the importance or porro music in her community.
Since Rising Voices launched in 2007, we’ve supported nearly 100 underrepresented communities through training, mentoring, microgrants and connections with peer networks. Our support has helped these groups develop bottom-up approaches to using technology and the internet to meet their needs and enhance their lives.

SUPERB!!!!!!!!!
Great video. I truly enjoyed watching all the smiling faces in the pictures. The transformation in Medellin, Colombia has been nothing short of miracle most of which can be attributed to the great local paisa’s who have worked to change the image of Medellin.
