FOKO: The BOMBS have arrived

To open a wider window to the Malagasy blogosphere, FOKO Madagascar started a blog contest in 2007 called Best Of Malagasy Blogs (BOMBS). The good news is that the BOMBS is back in 2009. The 2007 winners are performing as juries this time. Joan Razafimaharo informs:

BOMBS blogging contest nominations period will end on December 31st and winners will be announced on February 3rd after a review of the finalists list from the jury.

There will be 6 categories including Madagascar's cultural identity, Malagasy cause, Malagasy language blog etc. under which the blogs can be nominated.

FOKO invited Malagasy bloggers for a chat to discuss about the awards.

Tahina noticed that the Climate change Summit in Copenhagen did not attract much attention in Madagascar because of the ongoing political crisis (see Andrydago's post for details). But according to a local media report the Malagasy youth are concerned about this issue. And this is more evident from a event that followed. JADE Madagascar and FOKO Madagascar organized a VIDEO Conference in Tamatave to discuss about what is happening the in the Copenhagen COP 15 conference.

Patrick writes about the conference:

This last Saturday was an exceptional day in the capital of Betsimisaraka. Tamatave was in direct touch to Copenhagen Denmark by a video-conference. Technology! Amazing! Don’t you see? And that’s because of FOKO Blog Club Tamatave and JADE Madagascar activists who are always struggling and find the right way to save this planet in the middle of the Climate Change threat.

In the beginning of the conference everything looked like alright. We could watch and listen very clear the Cop15 discussion. Suddenly we were very sad because only five (5) minutes before our direct participation onto the discussion, there was a power cut which blocked all and that’s the reason why there was a moment when I was offline. Fortunately we were well prepared for that, and also Cop15 participants understood very well our situation. But anyway that wasn’t too long. Few minutes later everything worked very well as before. It was successfully because we could participate on the conference in real time. We finished our mission with a full joy.

Ariniania talks about Fozaorana, a kind of crayfishes which live in ponds and rice-fields:

The Fozaorana became famous these last two years. It became an expression that the Malagasy people use in their everyday life. The main meaning is combined with these words: numerous, popular, cheap.

- A girl called Fozaorana is an easy girl

- A phone is called Fozaorana when it’s cheap

She had the misfortune of being robbed by a pickpocket.

Diana lists things which you do when you are in Madagascar. Imahaka posts some tips on how to find a good life partner and why people must choose one.

Pakysse posts a video showing the total mess in traffic in Antananarivo, where even an ambulance cannot go through:

As the Christmas holidays are approaching, Lova Rakotomalala wishes everyone Mirary Krismasy Sambatra (May your Christmas be peaceful). He shares a few popular holiday tunes in their Malagasy version:

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all members of the Rising Voices family.
