This profile post is about Misael Hernández Mendoza (@triqui_trs [2]) and what he plans to discuss during his week as host.
Rising Voices (RV): Please tell us about yourself.
Mi nombre es Misael Hernández Mendoza, originario de la Comunidad de San Andrés Chicahuaxtla, Putla, Oaxaca, México, hablante de la lengua triqui. Actualmente soy el coordinando del equipo “triqui trs” para la localización/traducción del navegador Firefox triqui. También soy coordinador local para la creación de contenidos en triqui para el Sistema Operativo Endless, un proyecto colaborativo entre la Fundación AHH-Oaxaca y Endless que será puesto en marcha con el propósito de reducir la brecha digital en la comunidad triqui de Chicahuaxtla, de la misma manera he tenido la fortuna de colaborar en varias ocasiones con la Red de Activistas Digitales de America Latina.
My name is Misael Hernández Mendoza, I am from the community of Triqui language speakers of San Andrés Chicahuaxtla, Putla, in Oaxaca, Mexico. I am currently coordinator of the “triqui trs” team for the localization/translation of the Firefox browser in Triqui. I am also a local coordinator for the creation of content in Triqui for the Endless Operating System [3], a collaborative project between the AHH-Oaxaca Foundation [4] and Endless that will be launched with the purpose of reducing the digital divide in the Triqui community of Chicahuaxtla. Also, I have been fortunate to collaborate with the Digital Activists Network [5] of Latin America on several occasions.
RV: What is the current status of your language on the internet and offline?
En la actualidad la lengua triqui ha tenido presencia en las redes sociales, en navegadores de internet como es el caso de firefox triqui, en blogs, en libros digitales de Story Weaver; aunque cabe destacar que todos estos trabajos son a base de movimientos o grupo de voluntarios que luchan para visualizar la lengua triqui en la web. Aunque no existen riesgo de desaparición de la lengua triqui, es preciso señalar que existe la posibilidad de un desplazamiento lingüístico, en la actualidad son pocos los niños que lo hablan.
So far, the Triqui language has been present in the social media, in Internet browsers, such as Firefox in Triqui, in blogs, in digital books on Story Weaver. It should be noted that all these projects are based on movements or groups of volunteers who struggle to make the Triqui language visible on the web. Although the Triqui language is not at risk of disappearing, I need to point out that there is still the possibility of linguistic displacement, as there are few children who speak this language.
RV: On what topics do you plan to focus during the week that you’ll manage the @ActLenguas Twitter account?
Los triquis y la tecnología, apropiación digital, difusión de proyectos digitales de la región.
I want to focus on Triqui language and technology, digital appropriation, and dissemination of digital projects in the region.
RV: What are the main motivations for your digital activism for your language? What are your hopes and dreams for your language?
Me motiva ver mi lengua en internet, poder navegar en mi lengua, leer contenidos digitales en mi lengua, escuchar música en triqui. Aunque entiendo perfectamente que mi activismo es un trabajo desde la contrahegemonía pero sueño con que algún día mi lengua y todas las lenguas indígenas sean incluidas sin restricción alguna en las nuevas herramientas Tecnológicas de la Información y la Comunicación.
What motivates me is to see my language on the internet, to be able to navigate in my language, to read digital content in my language, to listen to music in Triqui. Although I understand perfectly that my activism is counter-hegemony, I dream that one day my language and all the indigenous languages will be included without restriction in the new Information and communications technology tools.
