In December 2019, Translation Commons [1] published a new resource “Indigenous Languages: Zero to Digital: A Guide to Bring Your Language Online” to describe the process to make languages accessible on computers and mobile devices.
According to the guide's introduction, the guide is targeted at indigenous communities, technologists, and support organizations, and provides a step-by-step process to assist language communities that want to “communicate online, share knowledge and documents, and to use software and devices that would otherwise be inaccessible to them.”
The guide is divided into two primary sections, each with its own flowchart to help evaluate the current state of a language and to help readers begin to apply existing technologies for their languages.
The guide also includes a glossary of terms and references for Unicode [2], font encoding, language codes, and fonts.
The entire guide has been made available under an Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0 [3]) license and can be downloaded from the Translation Commons website [4].
