In 2020, we continue our social media campaign by inviting different hosts [1] to manage the @ActLenguas [2] (Language Activism) Twitter account and share their experiences with the revitalization of and advocacy for native languages. This profile post is about Liz Julissa Camacho Zuñiga (@rimaynin [3]) and what she plans to discuss during her week as a host.
Rising Voices (RV): Please tell us about yourself.
Mi nombre es Liz Julissa Camacho Zuñiga, nací en la provincia de Abancay, Departamento de Apurímac en Perú. Estudié la carrera de Ciencia Política y Gobernabilidad en la Universidad Nacional Micaela Bastidas de Apurímac.
Desde el 2015 me dedico a difundir mi lengua materna que es el Quechua, revalorando en la práctica y enseñanza a través de redes sociales como en Facebook [4], YouTube [5] e Instagram. Realizo spot publicitarios, textos informativos, presentadora de eventos en mi lengua materna.
My name is Liz Julissa Camacho Zuñiga, I was born in the province of Abancay in the Department of Apurímac in Peru. I studied Political Science and Governance at the Micaela Bastidas National University in Apurímac.
Since 2015 I have dedicated myself to promoting my mother tongue Quechua, revaluing it in practice and teaching through social networks such as Facebook [4], YouTube [5] and Instagram. I make advertising spots, informational texts, and event presentations in my mother tongue.
RV: What is the current status of your language on the internet and offline?
Hay mucha participación porque hay muchos jóvenes que se están dedicando a difundir dando a conocer sus pueblos, sus costumbres, creencias, quehaceres. Visibilizando el trabajo de las comunidades campesinas a través de las redes sociales.
There are many young people who participate by spreading the word about their towns, their customs, beliefs, and daily routine, and in this way making the work of peasant communities visible through social networks.
RV: On what topics do you plan to focus during the week that you’ll manage the @ActLenguas Twitter account?
Primer día. Haré mi presentación, cual es mi nombre, cuantos años tengo, donde he nacido, que he estudiado y actualmente a que me dedico y cuál es mi principal motivación para con mi lengua materna.
Segundo día. Haré una reseña sobre mi trabajo de difusión en las redes sociales.
Tercer día. Escribiré sobre la importancia de mi lengua materna en las redes sociales.
Cuarto día. Daré a conocer el impacto que está teniendo la difusión de mi lengua materna en las redes sociales.
Quinto día. Me despediré con algunas frases en Quechua con su respectiva traducción para que todos los que interactúan en esta red social puedan aprender un poquito de mi lengua materna.
First day. I will introduce myself: my name, my age, my place of birth, my studies, my current work, and my main motivation for promoting my mother tongue.
Second day. I will outline my outreach work on social networks.
Third day. I will write about the importance of my mother tongue on social networks.
Fourth day. I will provide an update about the impact that the dissemination of my mother tongue is having on social networks.
Fifth day. I will say goodbye with some phrases in Quechua, accompanied by their translation so that everyone on this social network can learn a little bit of my mother tongue.
RV: What are the main motivations for your digital activism for your language? What are your hopes and dreams for your language?
Mi motivación primordial es que muchos niños y jóvenes se sigan sumando a esta gran labor de difusión de nuestra lengua materna que es el Quechua y que se REINVINDIQUE, REVALORE E INSTITUCIONALICE en todos los niveles de Educción y se enseñe de manera obligatoria para que de esta manera las personas tomen conciencia de cuán importante es nuestra lengua materna en estos tiempos donde todo lo primero tiene que ser lo nuestro.
My primary motivation is that many children and young people will continue to be involved in this great work of disseminating our mother tongue Quechua. I also hope the language to be reclaimed, revalued and institutionalized at all levels of education and be mandatory. In this way, people will become aware of how important our mother tongue is, especially in these times where we should reclaim everything that is ours.
