Streaming Program #2 – “Exchanges Live: Perspectives and Experiences with Indigenous Language Digital Activism”  Please pre-register here [2].

Join our team of hosts who will guide us as we explore the emergence of indigenous language digital activism in the “Exchanges Live” streaming program. With special invited guests, this program will highlight experiences and perspectives about the role of technology and the internet in language revitalization efforts in both Mexico and Canada.

The program will also take a look back at some of the early efforts to convene and facilitate connections between indigenous communities in Mexico adopting and adapting technology in their work, as well as examine different interpretations of what exactly is language digital activism. We’ll also hear about from an innovative and collaborative program in British Columbia about their process of supporting First Nations communities that wish to incorporate technology according to their self-determined needs. There will also be dynamic video exchanges between language advocates and activists between the two regions. Stay tuned to the @ActLenguas [3] Twitter account for a sneak preview of some of the guests who will be appearing.

Another important element of this program will be the integration of feedback and other types of participation through social media from those following along with the program.

The program is taking place within the program of the National Indigenous Languages Fair [4] (FLIN for its initials in Spanish) organized by the National Institute of Indigenous Languages [5] (INALI for its initials in Spanish) of Mexico, which is taking place online August 9 – November 25, 2020.

Find the program streaming on the ActivismoLenguas Facebook Page [6] and the Rising Voices YouTube channel [7]. Please note: the primary language of the program will be Spanish due to the chosen digital platform, but we will provide an English-language version of the recording.
