Categories: Feature, Newsletter

Rising Voices note: Our monthly newsletter provides a summary of our recent blog posts about all aspects of digital inclusion including access and adoption of digital tools, as well as different ways and opportunities for communities to fully participate online. Read here [1] for previous editions of this newsletter.

Hello readers, how are you doing this December?  Wherever you are, we hope that this issue finds you safe and sound.

In the spirit of empowerment, we’d like to introduce you to the Natives in Tech Conference, where Native and non-Native technologists come together to talk about how better tools can be built to support Native communities worldwide, allowing them to leverage technology for their own missions.

While its 2020 event concluded in November 2020, the recorded sessions can be accessed here [2].  If you’d like to explore more, recordings of its 2019 event can also be found here [3].  Please be reminded that Natives in Tech Conference is an online event, free for all, and you can definitely follow them [4] for future events to come!

MORE FROM THE RISING VOICES BLOG

For those who speak any language other than English: Do you feel Google Translate speaks your language well enough?  Or, oftentimes, you find its results subpar?  This story [5] intends to explain why that is in the case of Yorùbá and how this may be changed — for the better —  in the near future.

Along this line, we’d also like to present you with three more stories highlighting efforts in bridging the digital gap [6] for remote communities in the Amazon, in paving the way for wider application [7] of an indigenous language, and in making digital security resources accessible [8] to the Aymara community in their own language.

Furthermore, we would like to invite you to read an interview [9] with a Livonian poet and translator as he shares with us the past and present of his language as well as his plans of ensuring its future.
