MEETING
Digital Initiatives for Indigenous Languages of Taiwan is the first meeting that Rising Voices is organizing in the country, in collaboration with New Bloom and Indigenous Youth Front. We are inviting local Indigenous language digital activists to join us for this event for an opportunity to connect and learn from others about their experiences applying digital tools in their language revitalization efforts.
The central idea of this activity is to strengthen networks of local language activists of Indigenous languages who are using digital media for their language revitalization efforts; to facilitate the exchange of learned experiences and innovative ideas with one another; and to create a network of support and solidarity.
Rising Voices has co-organized similar events in Colombia, Nepal, and South Africa through similar gathering events designed to convene spaces for peer learning and exchange. This will be the first activity for speakers of Indigenous languages of Taiwan.
Please consider joining us in the first meeting we are holding for the Taiwanese context. Let’s open up a space for networked conversation about the possibilities and success stories to promote participatory media in Indigenous languages of Taiwan!

- A Presenter if you have experiences working on a project or campaign using digital tools or Internet platforms to promote your language. Each presenter will have about 10 minutes to share their experiences working with digital tools; a Q&A session will also be arranged to allow additional questions from the audience.
- An Attendee if you are interested in hearing the experiences of digital practitioners on this subject.

What can I share?
We’d very much like to have you as a presenter, if you have experiences…
- Creating and editing articles on Wikipedia in an Indigenous language of Taiwan
- Creating Instagram Reels in a local Indigenous language discussing cultural identity
- Creating Facebook posts sharing information in a local Indigenous language to promote health awareness during the pandemic
- Digitally documenting traditional stories from Indigenous elders narrating in their native language and uploading these videos to YouTube after receiving consent
- Localizing open source software into an Indigenous language, making it more accessible to the Indigenous community
- Using the Internet, digital media, or technology to promote a local Indigenous language in digital spaces

This is a hybrid meeting and you can indicate when signing up whether you’d prefer to come to Daybreak Cafe, join us online, or you have no preference on this – space at the venue is limited so please sign up soon if you’d like to join in person! Presenters will have the option to record their talk so that it can be uploaded to reach a wider audience.
