World Radio Day 2013

This coming February 13th will mark UNESCO’s World Radio Day, bringing together broadcasters, advocates, creators, and networks to improve and celebrate radio around the world. UNESCO recognizes that radio can, in emergency situations, be the best way to get information to people who need it most - and at other times can help people to engage with issues that affect them every day.

CGNet Swara: Enabling Tribals of Chhattisgarh To Tell Their Stories

CGNet Swara is a mobile-based news service which enables the tribals of Chhattisgarh to tell their version of stories, in their language. In this voice-based portal, citizen journalists can call a phone number and record a news onto the system. Similarly listeners can call the same number and hear the last three highlighted news. The reports are also shared by SMS, mailing list, blog, Twitter, Facebook and other social media networks.

On April 19, at eight different sites throughout six Bolivian cities, Voces Bolivianas will host Bolivian Voices Day, a one-day synchronized event that will train dozens of Bolivians how to start their own blogs and participate in both the national and global online conversations. In this podcast with Voces Bolivianas founder, Eduardo Ávila, we hear about the closing ceremony of the workshop series in Santa Cruz as well as why Voces Bolivianas decided to organize a one-day training at various sites around the country.
