Rising Voices Year in Review 2011
Rising Voices looks back at some of the highlights from our work in 2011, including welcoming new grantees, forging new partnerships, and organizing citizen media outreach events. We would also like to thank all those that accompany us on our mission of working towards a global online space much more representative with greater participation by all.
Januária: Extra, Extra, Read All About It!
As the culmination of the Rising Voices grantee project Friends of Januária, a special-edition newspaper called the “Folha do Norte” (Northern Page) was published providing an opportunity for more local residents to read the stories about local issues produced by the citizen journalists.
Januária: Making the City a Better Place to Live
The new citizen journalists from the Friends of Januária project have been starting to publish stories on the group blog about some of the issues of concern to city residents. In addition to documenting some of these problems, the bloggers have also been researching who is responsible and suggest solutions to make the city a better place to live.

Jamila Venturini, a Brazilian multimedia journalist, is one of the coordinators of the Rising Voices grantee project Friends of Januária, which will engage young people of the town showing them how to use citizen media to become better informed and monitor the work of the local municipal government.
Announcing the Newest Rising Voices Grantees
Rising Voices is pleased to announce the five newest members to join its global community of citizen media grantees. Each of the selected projects will receive microgrants to implement their proposed project to teach others how to use various citizen media tools. Please join RV in congratulating and welcoming the five projects from the countries of Guinea-Bissau, Greece, Brazil, India, and Mali.
