Global Voices’ Rising Voices initiative partnered with UNESCO to create a toolkit resource called “Digital Initiatives for Indigenous Languages” to explore and highlight how Indigenous communities around the world have been leveraging the possibilities of the Internet and other digital media platforms to promote and revitalize their languages in digital spaces.
The resource was developed collaboratively with networks of Indigenous digital activists, language champions, and other partners from Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, North America, and Oceania. This resource was created within the framework of the goals of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032.
The resource kit featured eight “Key Approaches” including
Facilitating, Multiplying, Normalizing, Educating, Reclaiming, Imagining, Defending, Protecting
This open resource available under a Creative Commons license is designed to be freely used by Indigenous communities around the world. It provides resources, including manuals, tutorials, and guides for leveraging digital tools effectively. It also highlights inspiring and innovative initiatives from each of the eight “Key Approaches”.
