Angika Wikipedia

The Angika-language version of Wikipedia, originally in the incubator phase for a decade, transitioned into a full Wikipedia on March 22, 2023.

Kundan Amitabh, the project's initiator and creator of Angika.com, led efforts to gather contributors and content for the Angika language, spoken in the Indian states of Bihar and Jharkhand and in parts of Nepal. Despite challenges, such as visibility issues and a lack of sustained engagement from voluneers, the Angika Wikipedia found at https://anp.wikipedia.org is now among the hundreds of official Wikipedia sites. With more than 1600 articles as of May 2023, this free online encyclopedia provides Angika speakers access to free knowledge in a language marginalized by dominant ones, offering information on local customs, folk songs, festivals, food, etc. In addition, the Angika Wikipedia seeks to elevate the language's presence on Wikimedia projects.
