The Luh Ayu Manik Mas project features a cartoon superhero from Bali, Indonesia. Normally an eighth-grade girl, Luh Ayu transforms into a superhero focused on environmental protection. The project was initiated to promote environmental awareness and the Balinese language, helping to promote the use of Balinese language in media and schools.
What sets this project apart is its collaborative approach. Luh Ayu Manik Mas's adventures are generated through social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. This allows users, especially students, to propose story ideas that are incorporated into the cartoon by a team of writers and artists. The resulting stories are turned into tri-lingual illustrated books in Balinese, Indonesian and English, with book reviews posted on the BASAbali Wiki platform.
