Pakistan: Radio Broadcast and journalist Training Project

The purpose for which this grant is being sought is to strengthen radio stations reporting and programming skills. More than 45% of the Pakistani population lives in poverty, and two-thirds of this figure living in rural areas. Some 65% of people living in rural areas are illiterate and lack access to news and information. Most of the radio presenters are working without basic training of broadcasting.

Colombia: Traditional Knowledge for Sustainable Development

The initiative is focused on the preservation of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), and to use it effectively in promoting sustainable land use of the riverine landscape. This microgrant perfectly fits in to facilitate a training in digital media to amplify the use of TEK in community-based ecotourism and to promote their sustainable entrepreneurship on the internet. After the training, the people learn by doing throughout the project.

Mexico: Preserving and Promoting the Mayan Language

The project pretends to preserve, to expand and to promote the conservation of the native language (Yucatec Maya) among all the social sectors, but principally between the young people, because they are who have lost the interest to continue communicating and expressing them selves using their mother tongue, the technology like the use of social networks, cellphones and the town planning of the rural sector are factors that have contributed.

Nepal: Raise and Rise

This project aims to equip survivors of trafficking with knowledge and skills of story gathering. 10 women will be trained on interview skills, recorder handling, audio editing and digital photography. They will produce a weekly radio show broadcast through local radio. We believe that empowering women with skills to interview will not only help raise their voice but also help them rise in their community where they are stigmatized and excluded.

France: Empowering Immigrant Women to Regain their Voice

The project aims to train a group of immigrant women in Nimes, France on the use of social network such as blogs, facebook and e-commerce sites (i.e Etsy.com). Exposing them to online social network as well as market opportunities online provides them an outlet to express themselves but also gives them an opportunity to use their skill and become economically autonomous, helping them regain confidence, find their voice again and use it.

Conn@cting People is a project which will connect rural people(with no electricity neither internet access at all) from a war-displaced camp to the rest world. it is a project with 3 main activities:2workshops on peace photojournalism and the use of internet, the installment of the first solar powered Rural Internet Kiosk in Burundi and a photo competition and exhbit. it help reach the MDGs of bridging the Digital divide.

Pakistan: IDPs Media Project

This project will enable IDPs youth age 16-24 living in Camp and host communities to tell stories about themselves and their communities. By learning the documentary approach in photography, IDPs youth will create media products about their lives. Each participant will produce a piece of work, In addition, the participants will also be given a crash course on citizen journalism, allowing them to disseminate their works through the Internet.
