This project is a challenge aimed at telling through the website salinasgrandes.org: how the native communities of Salinas Grandes and Laguna de Guayatayoc live and what they feel, think and believe. These are 33 communities located in the North of Argentina that struggle to defend their territory from the introduction of mining companies, in an area where the Government does not supply electricity, tap water, gas, or mobile phone service.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
We hope to be able to discuss topics such as: the communities’ way of life, culture, customs, traditions, and visions about development, transnational companies and the government. The tools will be the following: writing, photography, and podcast for radio. We wish to include in the website a section aimed at showing the communities’ way of life, their cultural manifestations and their opinions about politics as well.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Our organization is the Legal Advice Network. This is a program from CEPPAS (Center of Public Politics for Socialism) which has different workspaces, such as CPR – Center of Radio Productions that will contribute to the podcast and to a writing and photography workshop. Besides, we have been working with the communities since 2010; therefore, upon their request for support to spread their opinions through the net, we have designed this project.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
33 as a minimum. 1 person for each community involved in the project. The persons who will participate in the training will be elected in the meeting of the Board of the Communities of Salinas Grandes and Laguna de Guayatayoc.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
If there exist informative resources, tutorials, reports of other experiences and even ideas or tools that Rising Voices may place at our disposal, we are completely sure that this material will contribute to the enhancement of our project.
