Project will reach out to a refugee community in Australia, teach skills in online blogging by using video and audio recording to share knowledge of history, experience and community. This knowledge will become a digital archive where stories are told through various media e.g. dance, music, sound, art or text. Stories can be uploaded on a continual basis.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
The refugee community in Australia is misrepresented in the mainstream media so assumptions and prejudices occur. This digital archive is a way for these communities to record their stories, share their knowledge and as a tool to advocate and create fairer refugee policy. The online space will not discriminate or correct opinions, it will be free and participants can upload info in a language of their choice, making it globally accessible.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Vision will be to produce a platform for refugee communities to speak freely and express their stories in a variety of ways which will ultimately produce a digital story for a transforming national narrative. The citizen media output created will be a continuous, growing and evolving story that captures experiences recorded by participants and allows for intergenerational and intercultural exchange.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Current: The GOODNESS Inc, Future: DREAM Creative Therapies, refugee advocacy groups, local community groups, local council
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
Initial target of 100, open for review. Monthly meetings, facilitated debriefs and dialogues will be held and provided for participants to monitor, evaluate, review and improve. Participants will be key drivers in goal setting and tracking individual project progress. Project key role will be facilitation, providing equipment, resources and skills to participants.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Promotion and marketing via social media channels to increase the viewership of the online project. Support with approaching larger community groups and organisations such as confirmation letters to verify legitimacy as I will be an individual approaching others for partnership and approaching community groups.
