Project REARTH aims to promote ecological and social justice. It will collect stories from aboriginal Australians, whose views and knowledge focus strongly on living harmoniously with our land. Stories will be uploaded on websites First Voices and The Goodness Inc. It will create a blog including videos, audio and art where aboriginal Australians can be at the centre of social change by delivering social media training and tools.

Aboriginal Australian communities in Australia are frequently underrepresented in the mainstream media leading to unfounded assumptions and prejudices. This population has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom essential to living sustainably in modern society. We will work with a community in rural South Queensland and urban South Queensland, vis. Brisbane. Online space will provide a new global platform for shared learning about the first peoples
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Project will create news from blogs, documentaries, audio podcasts and artistic work. The website will act as an archive of information, opinions and alternative perspective to mainstream media. The citizen media output created will be a continuous, growing and evolving story that allows for intergenerational and intercultural exchange. Showcase artistic work, opinions, knowledge and share with other Australian communities.

This project is a partnership between First Voices and The Goodness Inc (a global collective of individuals committed to achieving a lifestyle free from greed, inequality and mass consumption) Future partnerships include QLD South Native Title Council, local indigenous community groups and local councils.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We will train 50 people of an aboriginal background from an urban community (Brisbane) and 50 aboriginal people from a rural community in social media, online blogs and digital work. The needs of the communities will be assessed, and relevant tools provided such as laptops, digital cameras and internet access. The project facilitator’s key role will be provision of resources and training to participants as well as monitoring and evaluation.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Promotion and marketing on social media to increase the viewership of the online project, raise profile through similar activities.
