The project aims is to recover and promote Bésiro (native language), and the collective memory of the Monkox† through the use of TIC´s (digital technology’s). All of this with a methodology of collective creation related to social vindications and peoples self-determination. We will work in workshops and then create 3 platforms: one virtual (Fb, blogs, etc); another local (trough Chiquitano radios, schools) and the last one would be nationwide.

Country:
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
San Antonio de Lomerio, San Lorenzo de Lomerio y Puquio; Villages in Santa Cruz de la Sierra
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
The Chiquitanos Monkox† are part of the Chiquitano ethnic group and they live in the forest of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Light in their villages has arrived just two years ago, so children and adults are getting they first long term encounters with internet platforms and digital technology, also the access to this service is limited. This indigenous group besides being a minority is really vulnerable to lose their language and traditions.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
There will be 2 target groups: the elderly will bring off videos and Audio podcasts to capture their legends in their own language. On the other hand we will make workshops in the schools, to work with the children that are recovering and learning Bésiro and teach them to document their idiomatic experiences through the use of digital photography, video and digital podcasts (micro-tales in Besiro and Spanish). Copyright will belong to the Monkox†
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
For the last year we have been working with the Chiquitans in several workshops about different topics, last december we have worked one about the new territorial configuration because the will become a (Autonima Indigena Originario campesina), which is encouraging them to gather information about themselves. We have a good relationship with the local authorities of this group and personal friendship with members of the communities and teachers.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
20 persons will be trained in each location (3 villages), 60 persons of different sexes and ages, each person will be able to invite others, since the goal is to share the info locally. In the schools we will work it as an “extra class” involving the teacher on it, and with the council of elders. We will promote the idea in the local radios, and bring sometimes the people to San Antonio, which is the village with internet, paying maybe for meals
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
We will certainly need different devices as sound recording devices, mobile phones (with cameras), some digital cameras, and we can maybe rent or find someone that can lend us the necessary digital cameras. Some people that actually work with this kind of documentaries and techniques are willing to help with the training and edition.
