As the very first community-based and not-run-for-profit radio in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Community Radio OPEN NETWORK has been designed to provide a channel that will allow the voice of the socially vulnerable population and the civil society to be heard. One of its main aims is to do fundraising humanitarian activities on the radio shows for the ill citizens that require very expensive treatment abroad, and thus is in need of support.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
The Radio gives the opportunity not only for the voice of the ‘regular’ and ‘small’ citizen to be heard, but also provides media coverage of the NGO sector, disclosure of activities relevant for combating corruption and other public campaigns. Most importantly, it is one of the rare broadcasters that offer media space for the stories and concerns of the ill citizens that require funds for the treatment abroad.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The citizens will be able to directly express their issues and concerns on the radio shows. The Radio has a nation-wide coverage, i.e. 9 frequencies, and allows citizens from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina to involve themselves in the humanitarian activities and share their stories. Apart from the radio shows, they will also be able to present their problems through video streaming provided on the NGO OPEN NETWORK's website.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Community Radio itself represents a tool for community and humanitarian-based activities.
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Community Radio OPEN NETWORK is founded and established by the NGO OPEN NETWORK. NGO OPEN NETWORK was created in the specific conditions as a direct and authentic product by Almir Čehajić Batko, i.e. through his TV and radio shows and morning show ‘Udri muški’, which is broadcasted on the radio ‘Chameleon City Sarajevo’ and on 54 radio stations in the country and the region, as well as on TV Pink BH'(in the first stage on TV OBN).
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
Since the Community Radio represents the first of a kind citizen-oriented radio in the whole Bosnia and Herzegovina, its aim is to involve as many as possible citizens on a daily basis in a variety of thematic radio shows. Hopefully, Community Radio OPEN NETWORK as a non-profit radio will be able to sustain its achievements through fundraising activities, individual donations and projects.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
The necessary finances have been provided so far through the project on corporate social responsibility (CSR), broadcasting the projects and activities of variety of NGOs on the Community Radio (NGOs contribute to the sustainability of the Community Radio by assigning certain funds intended for marketing and visibility purposes from their budgets), fundraising activities and individual donations.
