Cameroon: Community Blog on Sexual Abuse

This project involves creating a blog which will address the issue of sexual abuse to young girls by teachers in schools. We will go around schools and give lectures about the disadvantages of sexual abuse to the young girl child. Learners would be able to write short articles for the blog and email it to the coordinator of the project. This articles would be edited and published on the blog.

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?

Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.

I would be working mostly with high school girls. They are the most vulnerable group as they are approaching the puberty stage. However, most high schools do not have good access to the internet at schools. However, there are many ‘cyber cafes; where learners can use to access the internet and also send emails. This project would therefore improve learners writing skills, use the internet for emails and also encourage them to read the blog.

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?

Stories that address sexual abuse at schools. Different learners would be able to give different experiences on the issue and also how it has affected their education.We will also use this platform to provide support to learners who have been abused by writing articles on how to deal with sexual abuse.

Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.

We already have access to almost all the schools in the South west province of Cameroon and also the delegation of education.

How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?

1000 female learners.
