In the past years, it is observed that the fight against sexual exploitation, child labour and forced marriage in communities is done without any involvement of the main target group (girls), and girls are expressing disagreements and wanting their voices to be heard. In this project, we will offer media training, mentoring and follow-up girls to promote their voices on issues affecting their lives.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Girls will tell stories on their aspirations, challenges they face, and the support they can provide to improve on the lives of girls in their communities. We will also get stories on the perception of boys and parents on girls’ participation in providing solutions to problems affecting them. These real life stories and experiences will be shared on facebook, twitter and blogs for others to learn and share their support through varied ways.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
We own and run a primary school, and are in partnership with three other primary schools in the project area. The girls for the project will come from these schools. We have two project advisors who have experience in digital photography and photo-voice projects. Besides, we have a good reputation in communities and strong relationship with parents, community leaders, and local administration of the project area.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We will train 150girls (15girls from each of the 10 communities) to lead the project. They will be selected from 04 primary schools in the project area. Each participant will voluntarily commit her participation to the project and the selection committee will select 150 girls. Besides, participants will be supported through coaching and mentoring to sustain their participation. Participatory and child-friendly approaches will also be used.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
The project participants will need four desktop computers to do work.
