We plan to work with a group of 20 women, conducting three workshops around audio and radio production with Audacity, in order to communicate experiences and create an educational space that contributes to recognizing, denouncing and stopping violence against women. The audio pieces will be released through the podcast of the Chilean Network Against Violence Against Women and broadcast on community radios
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
A group of 20 women leaders from 25 to 60 years old, from rural and marginalized sectors involved in the Chilean Network Against Violence Against Women of Valparaiso, who collaborate with community radio and use the Internet to find information. Unfortunately relevant online radio resources and productions containing local information that can be used to combat violence against women are scarce.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Informative and participatory radio programs that use appopriate language and approaches to the social and cultural reality of the region of Valparaíso will be created. These programs will use different formats like reports, forums, interviews, and socio-dramas in order to identify and prevent violence against women, promote women’s rights, create links with social organizations and explore healing resources to overcome violence against women.
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
The Chilean Network Against Violence Against Women of Valparaiso is composed of women who collaborate with local community radios: Radioneta, Radio Placeres, Radio Popular Nueva Aurora, one of which is a member of the World Association of Community Radio. They also work with independent media like ForoCiudadano and Indymedia. And they provide content to the national Network website and participate in the “Warning: Machismo Kills” campaign.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
20 women will participate in the training workshops, requiring no previous experience with online technologies. In addition 12 people will be invited to address specific issues relating to violence against women. We will pay for participants’ travel and feeding during the trainings and will provide tools for creating digital content, such as digital audio recorders.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Help disseminating the podcast on other networks and creating links with other social organizations working with women in other countries.
Help accessing training tools and information that promote the use of digital technologies in citizen journalism. And also provide training opportunities around these same online and digital tools.
