Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Chimilas Indigenous youth with whom we will work live on a small farm that the State gave them away from urban areas. Slightly interact with nearby towns. In their language, dress, custom is little left. At miles away, hundreds of students were unaware even that the region was inhabited and still is one of the few primitive communities to extermination fought against the Spanish Crown.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The news stories are one piece to reconstruct the region memory. Resources used recognize the strengths of the two populations. This project stems from an investigation that is making a middle school teacher with a group of students. We approach the Social Communication program at the University of the North to help us direct the work with communities to make proper use of the local media and define the contents of the message in order not to affect the susceptibilities, especially of the indigenous community.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
It will train 60 people, 40 of Ariguaní urban area and 20 others belonging to the indigenous community Chimila. We believe that through the composition and performance of vallenato music genre inherent people of the region, the mainstreaming of research with students’ academic conferences and unpublished stories of indigenous grandparents being heard by his descendants can be maintained interest from all population groups.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
The project has the support of the City of Ariguaní for $ 11,000 to purchase equipment, licenses, mobile internet and another $ 2000 per year to maintain the project. It will also finance the rest of the research we advance to reconstruct the history of the indigenous community Chimila and describe the process of settlement of the first Creole. Postulate this project calls for government entities of Colombia and the Internet Society.
