Valle Hermoso (Beautiful Valley) is a new community formed around a pond that didn't exist until 1995. It is needed by the people around to know how to deal with the water resource, deal with the new fauna and tell the world what is being doing about this. Using video blogs, photo galleries and social networks, the lives and voices from Valle Hermoso's people will be told to the world. Also, awareness about the water will be created.

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Comunidad Valle Hermoso, Guano Canton, Chimborazo Province
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Valle Hermoso is a rural community, mostly of their inhabitants are small farmers that don't have access to Internet. Internet access is too expensive via cell phones or 3G that is not feasible. The Local Government (Municipality) is supporting a plan to make a green park and, perhaps, a local library with internet access. Documenting the origin and the life of the people living there will increase the chance of having a library.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Small farmers and peasants will have a video biography and a photo gallery.
The Valle Hermoso pond will be used as a touristic spot with videos and photos.
A group will be created in Facebook with all the community families and to promote Valle Hermoso.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Our organization, Fundación EcoSur, has been working for 2 years in the region building safe sanitary systems. A collaboration agreement has been signed with the municipality and there is a good chance to modify it to include the divulgation project “Lives and Voices”. Also, as part of the sanitary system's project, there is funds to printed materials and divulgation.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
About 40 families lives around the Valle Hermoso lagoon. Half of them, at least, has people that can be trained to use the video camera, open source software to edit videos and photos. Also, an “inclusive periodism” will be consider to help people with disabilities to be included in the training process.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Training sessions will be given in a computer environment and funds to pay or the access will be needed. In Ecuador, USD 0,75 per hour/machine of internet is an average of the cost of access.
Transportation and a small lunch during the training sessions will also be needed.
If it is possible, one or two computer to edit videos will be worth.
