Ethiopia is one of the highly hit nation by the pandemic of HIV/AIDS. Although, the country is showing progresses both in terms of new HIV incidence and prevalence rate, a systematic and strategic intervention is still needed to address the need of the newly appearing most at risk population groups such as in school and out of school youths whom can better be addressed via integration of peer education and social media interventions.

Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
The three districts in which our organization is currently operational are populous and mostly inhabited by children and youth below the age of 24. On one hand, even if HIV/AIDS is claiming the life of many of these youngsters, it is not given due emphasis and on the other hand it has not been addressed using youth friendly approaches and the actual concerns of these youths in relation with HIV/AIDS is not instituted in to the existing systems.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Exemplary HIV/AIDS interventions, specially those related with peer education approach, how they are successful in instituting responsible behavior among in school and out of school youths, how individual youths responds positively to occurring risky behavior will be some of the contents of the media outreach activities and this will mainly be realized through digital photography, digital video and social networking means.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Our organization has a strengthened connections with schools, local government authorities, voluntarily established neighborhood level community based organization, information technology and internet centers. This partnership is of great help in realizing the objective of this project by creating the essential plate form both in the wings of media outreach and peer education interventions.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
More than 2000 in school and out of school youths are believed to be trained on the issues of digital photography ,video and social networking in connection with the role they have in bringing out the true concern of them with respect HIV/AIDS prevention efforts, with a special emphasis on peer education scheme. After training these youngsters, efforts will be exerted to establish youth media outreach clubs in contextualized and indigenous ways.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Experience sharing via the platform recently introduced, arranging trainings and exposure visits, mentoring and coaching services are some of the major ways we think Rising Voices can provide support fot our project.
