Finalist – Mapping the “Neighborhood Cuba”

This project aims at creating an interactive map that pinpoints the too widely scattered community development projects in Cuba. It will contain basic information of each one and the description of its activities through short videos and photo galleries made by journalism students of the University of Havana as part of their training to cover local stories.

The significance of this project could be expressed in the possibility that tens of citizens to learn new ways to visualize their projects, can reach more people and extend their practices in many places.

Community work in Cuba needed momentum for deepening, expansion and many people feel more identified with the actions of these groups. This project would be a good start.

No matter what we do community work if it is, there will always be grateful people. so I just read the proposal Barrio Cuba could do much for the people of these projects and their neighborhoods

  • This is an amazing and inspiring project that will help us understand how cities and neighborhoods blossom in Cuba. I’m positive it will help bridge distances—both physical and ideological—and help us reflect on what constitutes “development”.

  • In the cuban context, this project is particularly significant, to the visibility of the citizenship, who often is not part of the mass media agenda, and in to the extent that these people are able to tell their own stories, become empowered and they become visible also politically.
