India: Empowering the young girls of fishermen community in citizen media

Young (18 -25 years) out of schools girls of fishermen community who live along the coasts of Puducherry have neither access of social media nor knowledge of it. Recently the Thane cyclone trashed the fishermen habitations and the most vulnerable are the young girls. So, it is decided to mobilize 50 young girls from 10 fishermen villages near Puducherry. They will be trained in basic computer operations.

HOPE Foundation work with nearly 15000 migrants and direct an HIV /AIDS education program. Peer Educators are an important stakeholder of this project. These Peer educators we propose to be transformed into Community Correspondents who will facilitate networking and information exchange with the peer. A Communication Hub will be developed managed by the Community Correspondent, functioning as a on line learning cum skill enhancement centre.

Women are to be empowered on showing different skills which promote their economical standard of life. Poor and vulnerable communities are the primary victims for any Hazard related to Peace or Emergency time. This project will envisage the need of preparedness measures to combat the disaster situations and mitigating the rapid climate changes in peacetime. Local vulnerable communities will take up the responsibility to initiate key interventions.
