Kenya: Kijiji Homes
Kijiji Homes is a project that aims to network children's homes in Kenya in a bid to have them share ideas, opportunities, information and solutions to the challenges they face. Through digital storytelling, the project will focus on telling the stories of the children's homes and the children at the homes to the general public and to the rest of the world. As the homes share with each other, they will better be able to support abandoned children
Kenya: Aspire To Greatness
Sports remains the most popular activity amongst the youth in Africa, and in Kenya, the most known stars are in football (soccer), rugby and athletics. The role of sports personalities as influencers and models is well known. Unfortunately, very few role models are known amongst the youth in Kenya, and we wish to take young people within our community to tell their stories and inspire others to greatness through simple acts.
Kenya: Voices of the Abasuba Community
The abasuba Community are a Bantu people believed to have originally migrated from Central Africa centuries ago. The name “Suba” means “the people who are always wandering”. As a result of assimilation to and intermarriage with the dominant Nilotic Luos, the Suba culture has come under pressure. This project aims to restore the identity, culture and the natural heritage of the abasuba people
Kenya: Women for Change
The proposed project is a training workshop aimed at equiping participants with skills to set up an interactive blog to enable them articulate their issues. After the training the participants will be assisted to set up an actual blog which will be a platform for sharing and the basis for taking action that address their circumstances. They will maintain the blog updating it on a daily basis, publicizing it and using it to call for action.
Kenya: Arid Lands Community Journalism Project
The project wishes to train professional community journalists who will run a community blog that will provide updates on news, events and projects within the community. The project aims to empower community members with professional journalism skills that will enable them cover and address their issues from their own perspective giving them the power to monitor their leaders and projects that are within their society through a blog.
Kenya: Watch This Space
Slum communities in Kenya are largely inhabited by low income earners, a good number of whom are either illiterate, partly educated or lacking in skills. These communities are marginalized not only by the society they are part of but also authorities who only remember them in times of tragedies. Our project will train slum residents how to tell their stories through video and pictures and share the same with the world through the social media.
Kenya: Silent no More
Kenyan Internet users increased by 95.63 % in the last one year showing a tremendous growth in the country’s technology fueled by high number of mobile phone usage. This creates an ideal avenue for Kenyan Youth to engage in Digital conversations around emerging issues and use of technology to address those issues. Silent no More will create 100 man strong network that will create compelling conversations on how technology can transform lives.
Kenya: I.C.T for Development and Sustainability
Offer ICT training to local farmers so that they can be empowered to be able to access markets for their various products at the right time and fetch better prices. When people especially the farmers are able to have financial sustainability through minimizing expenditure and maximizing profits then they are able to have a better quality of life, seek quality healthcare and are able to make informed political, social and economic decisions.
Kenya: Youth and I.C.Ts. in Community Development
Information and communications technologies (ICTs) are transforming societies and fueling the growth of the global economy. Yet despite the broad potential of ICTs, their benefits have not been spread evenly. Indeed, using ICTs will be effectively to foster social inclusion and economic growth is among the key challenges facing policymakers today, and therefore organization hopes to promote ICTs development across many dimensions.
Kenya: Digital fishermen of Oyamo Island
This project is to transform the fishermen in Oyamo island from traditional inadequate ways of communication by training them in computer and internet usage. The project is to enhance these fishermen global participation in environmental issues especially water and marine conservation. They will have a voice in global major environmental forums organized by UNEP and other stakeholders, something they are not even aware of currently.
