The project wants to capture what is left of the Savannah woodlands which densely covered the region. Through the lenses of the digital cameras, the beauty of the Savannah woodland, the arts and culture of the people living in it will be captured by the participants which targets the interested youth in the area. The images taken will be exhibited in the Flickr account that will be created for the project as well as to be exhibited in the town.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Wa Municipal, Upper West Region
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Stories of pictures on how beautiful the place is, especially the nature and how its people surviving the day to day that affects its arts, culture and traditions through times will be created. Africa, Ghana and Wa specifically will have the chance now to be told in a positive way. The place has less chance to tell its own story and through this project, an online account and other social media sites, the world will have now a glimpse of us.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
The organization plan to run this project in conjunction with Rising Voices if given the opportunity to get the microgrant. This grant will be use as a start up and the organization will take care of the other expenses and will look for other sources like technical and financial to sustain the project after its first year. The organization will also tap Rising Voices in terms of other online media opportunity to explore for us here.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We are targeting 20 youth on its 1st phase based on criteria we will set and amongst it is the interest in photography and activism. We will put this advertisement over the radio and do a panel interview when shortlisted. The chosen participants will be given intensive trainings on photography, advocacy and digital media. They will then be issued digital cameras and they will form a club and will be part of the trainers pool to train more.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Technical assistance on the project and other digital tools would be very helpful to us and maybe if the project would be a success, an additional year/s could be added to it and would eventually develop a partnership to explore more potentials of the area for online media.
