The project is about telling the stories of thousand of Liberian refugees who opted for local integration instead of voluntary repatriation. Using digital video, podcast, digital photographs we hope to provide a brief documentation of the Buduburam Refugee Camp and also videotape and record the stories of thousand voiceless Liberian refugees whilst educating them about digital video, digital photographs and blogs during these transition periods.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Gomoa Buduburam Refugee Camp
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Buduburam is a refugee camp located 44 kilometers (27 mi) west of Accra, Ghana, the camp was home to more than 12,000 refugees from Liberia who fled their country during the First Liberian Civil War. Currently the camp is home to 6,000 Liberians refugees who are awaiting local integration here in Ghana. Lack of internet facilities, poverty, and ignorance are major challenges.Sharing their experiences will be of great impact to the world.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
A brief documentary of the Refugee Camp and a platform will be created for people to narrate their experiences during the civil war, journey to Ghana, means of survival here in Ghana, the reasons for not returning home and plan for the future. Participants will be videotaped and recorded using digital video, digital photographs and other tools to be published online through blogs and other social networks available to the general public.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Greenzone Citizen Organization has been working with a group of Liberian youth residing at the refugee camp for the past three (3) months in the areas of education and sanitation through workshops training. Currently we have two Liberians group leaders on board serving as volunteers. We also planned to work along with other non-governmental organizations and associations in order to make this project a success.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
A total of 500 participants will be interview about their life experiences as refugees and taught on how to submit online digital video, digital photographs, and also comment on blogs; later they will be provided with refreshment and a little token for sharing their stories to the world.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Greenzone citizen Organization will greatly appreciate your efforts in making this project a success. We humbly wish that you serve as an advisory body, mentoring and also provide a laptop computer for the processing and storage of tangible information in making this project a reality.
