Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Migrants, mostly belong to low income households in North Indian states in India with limited technology access. Even the mobile phone technology the easier and cheapest technology available is not accessible to them. Their livelihood skills because of technology barrier are not used for improving the livelihood and income. Through the Communication Hub we hope provide access to various opportunities and could help better livelihood.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The participants will develop contents like the livelihood opportunities, other supportive services, and the work sites that are more welfare driven, skill development avenues and other major opportunities for livelihood. It will also provide information to the participants in the various government laws and schemes and programs for the participants. The collective networking provides better bargaining power and makes the life better.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Present connections include network with the Kerala State AIDS control Program and a number of construction and other firms which employ migrants. We also have a data base of nearly 20000 migrants in Kerala. We have very good network with many other non government organizations working with migrants. Future partnership include the career development organizations recruiting firms , skill development organizations etc.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
1. Community Correspondents. Community Correspondents will be those who manage the different migrant HOT SPOTS. They will be provided training on community based communications and information management.
2. The Community members: They will be provided with training on use of internet and other technology kiosks and blog development.
3. The sustainability shall be taken care of through various CSR (Community Social Responsibility) partnerships
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Besides the Micro Grant some of the resources that rising voices could provide include the training support including the materials, modules, stories from other locations, inter connectivity to share experiences and learn from the experience of others. Apart from that Rising Voices also could showcase the project through the website which might attract other donors for scaling up. Also project leaders could be provided with exposure.
