The project wants to give to refugees living in Italy the possibility to inform about their experiences, desires and perceptions about the hosting cities. Refugees will be trained about the general techniques of audio and photograph documentary and will produce a set of podcasts and pictures to tell about their previous life and the life they are living now highlighting the violation of rights they suffered in their country as well as in Italy.

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Brescia
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
The target is the refugees’ community hosted in province of Brescia, who, as an immigrates’ subclass, hardly find echo, specially online. Indeed, their particular status gives them scanty space and means of expression. In addition to the opportunity to speak out, the activity will represent a new purpose for them to move towards new perspectives of being active in the hosting societies and make their stories and life being listened.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Contents of audio and photograph series will be choose by refugees that will decide during the workshops what they want to communicate about their previous or present life, the difficulties they faced but also those they are facing now and where there had been or there is a violation of human rights. The output will be a series of podcasts and pict. that will be shared on local and national radios, other than online platforms and websites.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Ass. “Suoni Quotidiani”(expert in audiodocumentary) will held the workshops and mentor the refugees in recording the interviews that will be done through smartphones. The Museum of photography of Brescia will held the workshop about photography. For dissemination, our Ass. counts many previous collaborations with radio and journalists that will assure the diffusion of the final products, together with the use of social media and flickr exhibition.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We intend to involve in the training at least 30people between those hosted by our organization. Those who participated at the course will have the duty to interview other refugees they know in the city. The courses will be proposed as one of the weekly activities we propose them in our projects, and they are aware about the importance to be active and participate. Moreover they have a lot of free time and they are always searching for something new.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Rising Voices can support our Association and the refugees we host training and mentoring us about the use of social media, blogs and new technologies as a tool to sensibilize local communities about human rights and specifically asylum, since Italy is becoming day after day a very racist and anti-democratic country. We need Rising Voice to push our eyes out from daily problems we face with refugees to advocate more for and with them.
