This project intends to train a community within the rift alley region of kenya,Tugen community living on bogoria.they will be trained on the use of online platforms to share stories on renewable energy.
They work closely with a cbo Dyingo which champions the use of renewable energy within the region. The cbo gives them skill and knowledge on solar energy .
The online platform will help them share stories of success on renewable energy.
Topical focus:
Country:
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
This project will be held in the Rift Valley province of kenya.baringo county ,bogoria region where Tugen community a sub tribe Nandi.
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
The specific community will be the Tugen .they are under represented online because many of them lack the skill of doing stories .
This project intends to train them on story telling techniques and how they can use them to tell their own stories to the entire world.
Renewable energy, especially solar,is a savior to them as many of the have no access to electricity.
I have interest in working with the community as a journalist and help them .
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The community will be trained on how to use audio and photos to tell stories on renewable energy.
News stories will be based on the latest installations of solar and how it is impacting their lives positively in health, governance and education.
Content will be created by the members themselves and will help them in the editing process and also uploading them online.but first I will train them on how to use audio recorders and digital cameras .
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
The project will work closely with diyngo,a community based organization that champions the use of solar within bogoria region.
We will also work closely with lake bogoria national reserve premises who are always willing to give training space to the community at no cost.
The two organizations will help in information sharing and also advice to the community on renewable energy issues.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
Atleast 10 to 15 members of the community will be first trained.these will be members of the diyngo cbo who will realise the need to get trained on how to share their stories on solar energy.
Majority of the members use solar and have lots of stories to tell other audiences on the same .many are eager to learn from others on the latest developments on renewable energy within communities.
As members of the cbo they will be dedicated to learn.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Apart from the grant, rising voices can help in training materials for the community and also help community link with other communities around the world through other platforms.
They can arrange for workshops within the communities and help them get more trainings in areas thru feel they need capacity building on.
Finally by helping the Tugen community become a voice in baringo.

Hi Mary;
You really have good idea but you need to separate clearly the ideas as you have talked of 2 issues i.e. renewable energy and story telling in which to me, you would have concentrated in any one of them.
Secondly you seem not to understand the groups that you are referring to as Tugen because it is a sub-tribe of Kalenjin and not Nandi and more over, the tugen living in Bogoria are the ilchamus which is a sub-tribe minority group among the kalenjins community.
