iTELL Kenya is requesting funds to purchase ICT equipment to host a series of workshops to train Changamwe youth in the use of technology to share local events/issues/personal stories. Participants will receive ongoing support from iTELL Kenya to aid in their personal and professional development. This project will empower Changamwe youth to develop online methods of self-expression and increase self-confidence and community involvement.

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The project will encourage the development of content related to the local issues important to the youth of Changamwe, but are ignored by others. The content produced by participants will follow two themes. The first theme is current events and created content will relate to the news of Changamwe. The second theme is health and participants will create content related to general health, the dangers of drug abuse and rehabilitation, and pregnancy

iTELL Kenya is currently partnered with Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT), an international social enterprise that teaches youth to access and apply information and communications technologies to create opportunities, and Zelma Moore High School. In addition to existing partnerships, iTELL Kenya will pursue partnerships with organizations such as the National Youth Bunge Association as part of the project.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
This project will provide the necessary ICT infrastructure to reach iTELL Kenya’s target to train 100 participants per month. The project will train 1200 participants in the use of social media, blogging, digital photography and general ICT skills. Participants will be competitively recruited through community organizations and schools. Participation will be sustained through the growing community demand for ICT training.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
In addition to microgrant funding, iTELL Kenya requires additional computer equipment to reach a larger number of community participants. Digital cameras are also required to further document current events and encourage artistic expression among talented youth. iTELL would also benefit from the network Rising Voices can provide to connect Changamwe youth to inspiring individuals around the world to offer professional support and encouragement.
