Kijiji Homes is a project that aims to network children's homes in Kenya in a bid to have them share ideas, opportunities, information and solutions to the challenges they face. Through digital storytelling, the project will focus on telling the stories of the children's homes and the children at the homes to the general public and to the rest of the world. As the homes share with each other, they will better be able to support abandoned children

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Nairobi
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Most of the children's homes in Kenya do not have access to a sharing platform on issues such as child protection which is critical in handling children. They suffer in silence in trying to support the children under their care and only depend on the communities around them. We aim to develop public awareness to the needs of these children's homes so they can find partners and friends and gain ideas on how to better manage the homes.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Through the use of digital storytelling, photography and videography, the homes will tell stories about the successes and the challenges that they face through the sharing platform. Kijiji will also have a training platform where the homes will receive training on taking better pictures and videos that tell a story and use of the internet. The pictures and videos will help the homes to attract the attention of the public towards their needs.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
We have partnered with Kipawa Creative Productions which is an audiovisual music studio. The studio has in the past helped the Kijiji Homes project in taking pictures and videos for digital storytelling and will work with the homes on photography training. These they do it all on voluntary basis. Support from one of the leading media houses in the country is also possible and we are working towards achieving this so as to push the project forward
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The project will focus on the homes in Nairobi area, which are atleast 100, before moving on to the rest of the country. The project will focus on participative trainings that will involve all the homes equally according to their training needs. The project is projected to be attractive to the homes since it will be a means to an end for the homes. They will benefit from the networks that they form through the sharing platform.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Rising voices can further assist the project through extensive networks and communication about the project to various stakeholders, that will lead to the success of the project. The networking required will involve exchange of ideas and advice from the other rising voices micro-grant competition participants, that will ensure continuity of the various projects around the world, whether successful for funding or not.
