The abasuba Community are a Bantu people believed to have originally migrated from Central Africa centuries ago. The name “Suba” means “the people who are always wandering”. As a result of assimilation to and intermarriage with the dominant Nilotic Luos, the Suba culture has come under pressure. This project aims to restore the identity, culture and the natural heritage of the abasuba people

Suba District in Nyanza is highly underdeveloped despite the booming fishing business. Penetration of electricity is about 2% and therefore access to modern technology remains at 0.5%

Through my Community Based Organization, I have been able to implement renewable energy programs in Suba Islands, Mbita Point, Ndhiwa and Mfangano. Our program seeks to exploit the wind energy and convert it to electricity using micro-wind turbines for domestic consumption
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We target to train about 1,000 people on the use of modern technology. Once We intend to establish a community media-cum-cultural information center in Mfangano Island
