The project will bring a trainer to lead workshops on the topic of child sexual abuse to encourage survivors to break the silence by posting stories of other survivors. The participants will post the interviews on the Zeina Spoke blog, and if the people they interview show interest, we will offer a workshop for them to post as well. We hope that eventually we can prevent abuse from happening, but we are starting by breaking its taboo.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The content will be posted on the Zeina Spoke blog, which includes interviews, photos and art. We will encourage the people who receive training — mostly survivors–– to interview more than one person and to express themselves through different mediums that can help in the healing process.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
We have received counseling and services from AltCity in Beirut, where we can use facilities for training and meetings. After participating in the MIT Arab Social Innovation Camp we have support from Bader Young Entrepreneurs program. We have also been in contact with several local psychologists who are able to provide counseling when needed.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We expect to have a minimum of five trainees and up to 10-12 participants, based on the interest expressed by the people we have interviewed and who have attended meetings.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
We want to encourage survivors to speak up on the issue of child sexual abuse in other countries.
