Malawi has one of the highest child marriage prevalence rates in the world. According to UNFPA report in 2012 on average, one out of two girls will be married by their 18th birthday. Through Awareness campaigns by trainers, the project will capacitate the marginalized communities on child rights and child marriage issues, build a database of people's views on child marriage, and contribute towards enactmate of child bill in the Malawi Parliament

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Participant will document case studies on the ground on the depth and scale of the problem. Some other media will include taking pictures and holding interviews on factors that affect girls. These stories will be compiled online through developed websites and social networks in addition to public video cinema. This will form part of our advocacy strategy

GLOHOMO has worked before on budget monitoring and advocacy in the Health Sector, and has a working relationship with the Parliamentary Committee on Health and the Legal Affairs Committee. The organization collaborates with Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth, Ministry of Economic Planning, Gender and Environment and Climate Change to push the development agenda. We have strong relations with Nkhukwa area where most of our projects are underway
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
10 girls and two males from the hard to reach localities will be targeted. These will be trained on child marriage, child rights, Online Media and community mobilization. These trainees will be required to reach at-most 40 community members and results from these meetings will be placed online for public consumption. The information collected will aim at Influencing policy at local and national level as well.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
We shall require Technical support on online media training, website host domain as well as linking us with other vibrant online networks to share the lessons learnt from our project.
