Topical focus:
Country:
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Ile-Ife, Osun State
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
I will be working with women and girls. The is because 90% of women and girls in Nigeria are still illiterate in web 2.0 even the educated ones. This is as a result of the fact that there are few cybercafe around and they already taken over by “Yahoo boy” these are boys that engages in spam on internet. they can be so unruly and dangerous and so women and girls don't feel safe to go to the cybercafe. therefore they need a safe place to do this.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
There will be emphasis on the culture of silence in Nigeria that makes women to be passive, disengaged and disinterested on issues around them. As a result of this culture, domestic violence, using women, girls and girl children for rituals and limited leadership opportunities continue to plague Nigerian women. Women and girls would be encouraged to tell their stories and experience as regards this as they connect to citizen media
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Women Inspiration Development Center, my NGO have just established Vocational and Violence free Girls Club(VVIFREG) in secondary schools in Nigeria. We also have mentors for these club locally and internationally. This project will target the local mentors and the leaders of these clubs. As they go through this training and workshops, they will become part of global social network as a way to raise their voices on women and girls issues.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
60 women, ages 21-35 and 90 girls, ages 15-21 will be trained in this project. The cybercafe will continue to be of service for the participants and other women and girls in the community after the project at half price of what is operating in other cafes to continue to sustain the source of the internet connection.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Though we are hoping to embark on this project with two desktops and two modems but if rising voices could send us more computers apart from the micro grant funding, it will alleviate the problem of inadequate equipment during the training.
