Ibrahim Hyderi, a 500 year old fishing village located in Karachi, Pakistan, is rapidly losing its traditional knowledge and culture due to urbanisation. Our project will document indigenous fishing knowledge, cultural practices and traditional beliefs through the use of digital media tools. Our professional collaborators will hold intensive digital skills-building workshops to build capacity of young, active members of the community to increase.

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
a) Video and photographic documentation of demonstration of traditional practices by fishermen (boating making, seasonal charts, fish and marine resource typology, cultural artifacts etc)
b) Video interviews of village elders and experienced fishermen on history, events, stories and events. These will be prepared through short videos.
c) A project blog will be developed for the media content and related commentary

AWAZ, a youth-led local volunteer community-based organization, will be the grantee and responsible for implementation of the grant. For the proposed project AWAZ has enlisted the volunteer support of three professionals in the areas of community development, digital media and filmmaking/photography for capacity building and implementation support. The collaborative approach will ensure development of long term capacity building in digital skills
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
8 participants will be trained through the project by three volunteer professionals. The focus will be on hands on and in-depth training with on-going guidance.
