Develop the capacities of indigenous communicators to produce eight 10-minute podcasts, in four native languages, on communication rights of indigenous peoples. The training will also enable them disseminate those materials through social networks and a platform dedicated to visualize this right. There will be programs in Aymara, Quechua, Shipibo and Ashaninka.

Indigenous people are excluded and marginalized for speaking a language other than the dominant (Spanish), and with very limited access to the media. Indigenous communicators make great efforts to rent space in commercial radio because in Peru there are no licensed community radio stations because of the bureaucratic complexity. In this context, digital media is an important ally.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
These will be mini-programs of varied content (including interviews, skits, etc..), With a base of information and research that deepen the theme of human rights of indigenous peoples and the right to communicate with examples in an educational way, with a thoughtful and persuasive purpose. Dissemination will be through digital media, local radio, loudspeakers and other culturally relevant ICTs.

Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Servindi, supported by the German cooperation agency GIZ, is preparing an international web platform with specialized content visible the communication rights of indigenous peoples and to be presented at the Second Continental Summit of Indigenous Communication. The platform will offer the podcasts as resources to encourage other communities to produce similar products in other native languages.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
Ten indigenous communicators, who then must replicate the training in their communities. Participants will not be just anybody, but people recognized as communicators with a commitment to indigenous media. Will be gathered and selected for a workshop-internship in radio production at Servindi headquarters in Lima.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Servindi has a core budget to update the indigenous communication media web platform. It has also been preparing some communication events to help socialize the Second Continental Summit of Indigenous Communication to be held in October 2013 in Mexico. All this helps to generate synergies and production of content for the podcast. It is an approach to promote intercultural citizenship rights and empowerment of vulnerable populations.
