In Latin America, the Citizens’ media par excellence has always been, and will continue to be, the radio. In this context, we will bring workshops to teach the people running community radios how to use ITC to run open, free and pluralistic radios, trainning them in the use of different “new media” tools like Audacity, social media, etc. Always from the perspective of free culture.
Topical focus:
Country:
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Lima
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
We wish to work in Lima, specifically with the Pamplona community, because since it is locatedsomewhat distant from the downtown area of the city, the members of this community have developed their own culture and customs; they only have themselves to solve their own problems since no one listens to them and they receive no helpfrom the authorities.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Participants will learn how to run a radio program (including several members of their community); this will be donefrom their own houses or from a site that is accessible to everyone in the community. In these spaces they can show their talent (artists in the community), voice their complaints (organize groups to find solutions, etc.).
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Other tools
Audacity (audio edition), iFolder for content manager, and other on line and copyleft tools.
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Centro de Producciones Radiofónicas –CPR can provide several equipment and materials for the production of content, so that the results will be dynamic guides or instructional manuals that can be used and updated after the develpment of the workshops. Also CPR support with the participation of professionals in Communication, Sociology, etc
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
20 professionals will participate: Sociologists to know what these initiatives must respond, or which problems need to be resolved, and communicators, which will expose the benefits of ICTs to improve community integration.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
We can work with several universities, rewarding the aid with training for the communication students such as workshops that include voluntary programs for the students.
