Finalist – Argentina: Los Inestables Radio: More Participation, Less Segregation
Los Inestables Radio seeks to promote the appropriation of digital technology tools by participants, with the aim to promote self-management and the collective participation in each of the stages of radio production. For this purpose, we will conduct training workshops in live broadcasting, recording and editing of podcasts, and the use of social networking so they can share their content with the global community. There will also be biweekly tutorials and sessions to share experiences with other local community organizations.
Finalist – Colombia: Hearing Stories in Our Own Tongue (Wayuunaiki)
The project's aim is to make traditional knowledge, values, and Wayuu cultural identity available and widespread, to strengthen unity and social capital in the Guajira communities of northern Colombia. It will do so through workshops and training that will grant the Wayuu community the tools to prepare, produce and broadcast (podcast) a series of traditional folk tales in their own language to be part of their local community radio programming. The project is developed with the grassroots indigenous organization Wayuu Araurayu which have a local radio station “Jujunula Makuira”.
Finalist – Pakistan: Radio Vision
Presently, majority of the vulnerable youth with special needs tends to withdraw from the society, hiding its talents and potential. Aiming to provide a job market to youth with visually impairments. Radio Vision Pakistan is a project initiated by Visionary Foundation Pakistan, for persons with visual impairments, in this online radio, RJ’s that will conduct the show will be persons with visual impairments. This unique project will open a new window of job opportunities for persons with visual impairments also play a very vital role in the mainstream of the society.
Finalist – Zimbabwe: Voices from the Deep End
This project seeks to use new media to raise awareness about the San Community in Zimbabwe. The San are a group of people are on the verge of extinction. They are being faced with serious adaptation problems, living in poverty and their language is almost dying. The project seeks to create platforms where the San can be given platform to express their issues and also participate in democratic processes in Zimbabwe. The San will be trained to use new media to advocate for their rights and raise awareness about their situation.
Peru: Promoting Communication Rights of Indigenous Peoples
Develop the capacities of indigenous communicators to produce eight 10-minute podcasts, in four native languages, on communication rights of indigenous peoples. The training will also enable them disseminate those materials through social networks and a platform dedicated to visualize this right. There will be programs in Aymara, Quechua, Shipibo and Ashaninka.
Guatemala: Pueblo CLIC
Pueblo CLIC is a nonprofit website, which was created with the purpose of projecting the art, culture and natural beauty of San Lucas Toliman, located around Lake Atitlan. The main idea is to boost intercultural tourism and thus, contribute to the local economy of its residents and therefore, improve lives.
Bolivia: Digitizing the Besiro Language
The Besiro language is endangered and that is why we want to digitize the language through audio, photography, video to create records, data and supporting material for teaching in the education system. We will work in a community with 15 families, of which, 5 of them speak the language but who are elderly. We expect to be in social networks so that young people can use the Besiro language.
Colombia: There is Culture
To contribute to the exercise of communication rights and the culture of Afro-Cartagenian women and men and their social organizations, which are located in popular urban sectors in Cartagena (Colombia). By working with a website under the name “There is culture”, where we will mainly collect and disseminate their products, knowledge, culture, and communications.
Ecuador: Citizen Podcast
We want to increase citizen participation in the rural parishes of the region of Loja (Ecuador) through the production of fortnightly audio recordings with conversations with residents, and which will be included in the podcast of the #LoxaEsMás collective.
Peru: Puyca Under the Lens
Mobilize efforts in support of the district of Puyca, in order to highlight its potential and experiences, training high school students, teachers, and local leaders in the use and the importance of photographic documentation as a way of mass diffusion in virtual spaces such as Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter so that the photos may be seen by the most number of people, as well as the authorities of Arequipa.
