Finalist – Cambodia: Bunong Ancient Myths and New Ideas

The Mondulkiri Resource and Documentation Centre (MRDC) has been active in the mountainous indigenous populated province of Mondulkiri, Cambodia in collecting, organizing and making available all data and information about the province and especially its main ethnic group, the Bunong. This project aims to continue this work by training young Bunong volunteers in producing locally-made films related to the past and present Bunong culture and on broadcasting them through social media tools developed for the global community and mobile phones for the local communities.

Finalist – Colombia: Hearing Stories in Our Own Tongue (Wayuunaiki)

The project's aim is to make traditional knowledge, values, and Wayuu cultural identity available and widespread, to strengthen unity and social capital in the Guajira communities of northern Colombia. It will do so through workshops and training that will grant the Wayuu community the tools to prepare, produce and broadcast (podcast) a series of traditional folk tales in their own language to be part of their local community radio programming. The project is developed with the grassroots indigenous organization Wayuu Araurayu which have a local radio station “Jujunula Makuira”.

Peru: Promoting Communication Rights of Indigenous Peoples

Develop the capacities of indigenous communicators to produce eight 10-minute podcasts, in four native languages​​, on communication rights of indigenous peoples. We will promote the rights of indigenous people to participate in civic/citizen communication processes in digital spaces by organizing 3 training sessions for 30 indigenous women from 15 community radio stations to increase capacity to produce audio pieces with Audacity and use online tools such as podcasting. The trainings will result in a series of 12 audio pieces in Spanish and indigenous languages of stories of violence against women.
