I wish to initially install 10 computers and internet in a newly completed Computer Laboratory to give basic computer training to 250 Primary School children and 20 Teachers in 5 rural primary schools, 50 secondary school students and 10 teachers in the same locality and 150 adults. These have already formed readers clubs. These will access information on basic agriculture, simple income generating activities and prevention of killer disease
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
This is a poor community. They need stories about people who have succeeded in life from simple beginning, people who started with very little money but started a farm or business worked tirelessly to succeed. they want to hear stories of people who have eliminated killer diseases like malaria, measles, diarrhea, how people are fighting HIV/AIDS, how people have improved their health by eating the right food, how children education has improved
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Other tools
Computers photocopier Internet to access experiences elsewhere particularly in the developing world.
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
We are working with BOOK AID International, a British based Non Government Organization; National Book Trust of Uganda, an umbrella organization for authors, Publishers, Printers, Booksellers and Librarians; Uganda Community Libraries Association; Under the reading Tree, a Canadian NGO; Uganda Libraries and Information Science; Uganda Communications Association; Area Community Development Officer, Area Education Officer.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
250 Primary school children; 20 Primary School Teachers; 50 Secondary School Students; 10 Secondary school Teachers; 150 adults within the community. 100 women and 50 men. A larger number of women is preferred because it is believed in the African community that if you educate a woman, you educate a nation, if you educate a man, you educate an individual. Initially, a total number of 480 people will be trained.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
The ICT Laboratory is designed to accommodate 50 computers. The total area population is approximately 500,000 inhabitants. The resource Center is a permanent feature in the area to serve this population for a long time. I therefore request Rising Voices to be a partner and participate in the development of this rural part of Eastern Africa for many years. We need Volunteers to come and participate in various development activities.
