The Project will involve the selection of two farmer groups from which a number of farmers will be trained in the use of digital video, mobile phones, photography, and blogging in order to capture images of their on-farm problems and processes and share them. The documenting of this information by farmers in archives will help build a network of local knowledge and the results of the project will be uploaded onto a blog for dissemination online.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The project will also bring out success stories of farmers from other regions who have successfully used media to improve on their lives, special editions of newspaper pull-outs on Agriculture, and video documentaries on best Agricultural practices. Participants will also be encouraged to share any information they think could be important to others and agricultural practices they have used before and found useful.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Rural Empowerment Network (REN) is a network of farmer groups in Uganda. We work directly with small-scale farmers by providing them with the information they require for agricultural and rural development. Our projects catalyse networking among these groups for purposes of information sharing for agricultural and rural development.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The project will seek to train sixty (60) farmers from two farmer groups, i.e. thirty (30) farmers from each group. In this case farmers will be selected from two farmer groups. The project will also sustain participant involvement by involving them in all aspects of planning and organizing activities, including giving them leadership roles in the project.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Rising Voices can support REN by directing us to additional resources both online and elsewhere, other funding sources.
Rising Voices expertise and guidance on innovative ways to engage project participants in citizen media techniques for raising their knowledge of agricultural information.
