St. Paul Secondary School, Mpererwe wishes to run a project to raise voices from youths in schools and other institutions of learning by training them to use digital photography technology and web searching in order to share the plight, challenges and success stories from youths in institutions of learning and conduct discussions through blogging and mobile phone cameras to cope up with appropriate strategies to overcome development barriers.

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?

KAMPALA

Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.

We want to work with youths aged 15-24 years in learning institutions in Kampala by networking with them. Initially 10 secondary schools have already expressed interest in our project. they have a population of about 5000 youths. The youths in schools should be brought up knowing the plight of youth unemployment and identify problems affecting development in their communities and begin to find solutions while still in schools with other peers.

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?

Youths need to create stories about lack of jobs, the plight faced by youths who drop out of school, female youths forced into early marriages or labor and get unwanted pregnancies and those who engage in commercial sex. They will express their views on how the youths should be assisted after school progranm to create self employment for self-sustaining through vocational skills training and provision of small micro-loans to set up group projects

Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.

We have internet connection and will design a website for purposes of the establishing blogs and peer learning for the youths

How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?

We shall train 10 participants from each institution who will further train more peer groups to sustain the project

Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?

We need to be monitored and be advised on the project because we want it spread to more institutions to benefit many youths. We need to be assisted with technical and financial inputs for use in implementing the project by asking Raising Voices to connect our project to funding agencies.
