The project is meant to enlighten and awaken this group to acquire skills on how to document women issues and support women rights activism in their society. The targeted group is one of the most marginalized in our society and often abused of their rights with little to fight back or nothing at all. This target group will be given skills on how to use the film medium to tell stories about them and also be able to produce audio-visual materials

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Women are expected to acquire film documentation skills on how to document stories about women issues, women’s rights and advocacy. We expect more women documentary film makers and more stories created each year which will be displayed or exhibited each year in Uganda and viewed on our website around the globe.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?

The Organization has an annual event Manya Human Rights International Film Festival marking the 4th edition 2013. The festival has attracted funding in the past from both local and International donors. How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The first batch of training will comprise of ten female participants this year selected from the five divisions of Kampala. Two participants will be selected through invited application from interested participants. The participants will be facilitated throughout the period they will be trained. Expected is film footage materials by trainees and certificates of participation.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
The support and resources we should expect from Rising Voices should include publication of the produced audio-visual materials to your wider network. Such that more people are able to realize the challenges women go through in life and also be able to act on the promotion of women’s rights around the globe.

This is a unique experience especially the women who need to acquire film skills such that they can document women’s issues and women’s rights representing the girls. I wish you all the best in this project and will be there for the Manya Human Rights Film Festival.
I hope to see the fruits of that project! Great idea to empower women to document stories on women rights abuse and the girl child connected to Gender based violence. i believe the trained female will fully be able to document stories about women and the girl child to use the footage as an advocacy tool!
