What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
KAMPALA
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
We are working in the community of Kagoma, Maganjo and Kawanda, Kawempe, and Kisimu in Wakiso district. These communities have resolved to work together to fight against the acts of human sacrifice through open air campaigns. This project will help to enhance on our efforts by training community news reporters with digital video cameras and mobile phones to circulate the news about human sacrifice and the corrupt tendencies that block development
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Community evangelists are the most active persons of social networking in the rural communities. This scale-up project is aimed at increasing the open air campaigns against human sacrifice through community media. It will take advantage of the increasing online social network. The participants will be trained in skills of using the internet and social media tools such, mobile phones and to educate their online users on the ills of human sacrifice
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
We want to establish partnerships with mobile phone network service providers to get connected to their services to circulate news and campaigns from our project using their network. We want also to design a website blog where our news and campaigns shall be posted for national and global sharing against human sacrifice in Uganda and the corrupt tendencies that have made development in rural communities to be difficult.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We intend to train 25 participants from the five communities. These trainees shall be sustained jointly by the grant from Raising Voices and from the organization's contribution. The organization will liaise with the communities to select the suitable persons to participate in the training.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
We mostly need to circulate our proposal to more funding agencies in order to solicit for more funds to expand our activities and cover more communities because human sacrifice and corrupt tendencies are posing a big threat on the rural community development. We would also need to be supported with computers and mobile phones to be used in the each of the five communities in sending news faster and using internet network and local mobile phones.
