PC is a community youth project aimed at promoting a culture of responsible citizenship and non-violent communication in responding to the challenges affecting the young people in and out of school in Makindye peri-urban communities through community debate/dialogue and online sharing. The project will create an online community media group, train participants and establish a Peace-Comm Blog for online sharing and community dialogue.

Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
PC project targets peri – urban youth between the ages of 15 – 30 both in and out of school, victims and perpetrators of violence, former street children and young mothers in the slum and peri – urban communities in Makindye.
The slum and peri-urban youth and communities have limited access and knowledge on the use and application of social media in creating awareness and voicing out their challenges.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Adolescent sexual health, urban crime and violence, Urban youth unemployment, gender based violence, Responsible citizenship through Civic engagement, sanitation and hygiene in communities, good governance and human rights. Peace through communication blog will be created by participants with an aim of instilling responsible citizenship culture and civic responsibility among the youth.

Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
African Youth Initiatives intends to partner with Uganda Children’s Centre through utilisation of their community resource centre and computer laboratory that will host the training of the participants and provide space that will create a platform for the community dialogues. UCC shall also provide technical support in terms of trainers, internet and computer space.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The project shall target 20 participants’ comprising mainly adolescent mothers, street children, victims of violence and students. Participants shall be given an opportunity to have email addresses created for them besides snacks and refreshment during the training.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Materials, Tools/ Equipment and technical support in the field of social media to AYPI for effective implementation of the peace project.
